EQUATOR Network meeting: "Transparency in Reporting Health Research"
Dr Dhia Chandraratna, International Medical and Scientific Research Officer, represented MSIF at the first meeting of the EQUATOR Network on 26 June 2008 in London.

The EQUATOR Network is a new quality improvement initiative that seeks to enhance reliability of medical research literature by promoting transparent and accurate reporting of health research.

This first meeting looked at the importance of good health research reporting from different perspectives, what can be done to improve the quality of research reports, and reporting the results of research and the question of whether funders and ethics committees should be accountable.
The final session of the day was the first EQUATOR Annual Lecture which was presented by Sir Iain Chalmers of the James Lind Library, Oxford, UK. The lecture was titled "Meeting the research information needs of patients and clinicians more effectively."

Dr Chandraratna said, "This was a very successful meeting emphasising the importance of transparency in the reporting of health research, the need for standardised reporting guidelines and the vital role of researchers, editors, ethics committees and funders in this process."
